Bangladesh has achieved success in curbing Covid-19: Health Minister

Today, Zahid Maleque, Health Minister, said that Bangladesh has succeeded in controlling coronavirus whereas many other countries including India, UK, and USA have not.

The health minister stated that there was no cause of death from lack of oxygen in India, but India did. He spoke as the chief guest at an orientation program for newly-recruited junior consultants (Anesthesiology), held at Dhaka’s Osmani Memorial Auditorium.

According to him, the number of Covid-19-related infections in Bangladesh has been declining. He said that infection can recur if the health guidelines aren't followed.

"Covid-19 is under control in the country now. He said that it was impossible to achieve this feat with magic. It took all the efforts of doctors and everyone else."

The minister stated that educational institutions have reopened as the situation improved. He also said that Bangladesh's financial conditions had significantly improved.

Minister said that the country has a shortage in anesthesiologists and new consultants need to be hired quickly. He stated that more anesthesiologists would be hired in the future to address the crisis.

He stated that Bangladesh will not be in shortage of vaccines as 1.5 million vaccines will be distributed this month.

The programme was opened by Prof Dr Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam (Director General Health, DGHS), who stated that 409 anesthesiologists were appointed in Bangladesh in a first.

Additional Director General Meerjady Sabria Flora, Additional Direct General Nasima Sultana and Secretary General Swadhinata Chipsak Parishad MA Aziz attended the event.
